ARTEAN
‘Artean’ is an EP featuring six bilingual songs, blending Catalan and Basque. Five songs were written by Judit Neddermann in Catalan and then translated to Basque by the singer-songwriter Olatz Salvador. The sixth and final song of the EP, ‘Mendien Artean’, was written entirely in both languages by the cellist Quico Pugès. The song ‘Lamiak / Dones d’aigua’ draws inspiration from Irene Solàs novel, ‘Canto jo i la muntanya balla’.
This EP aims to celebrate the richness of languages and the collective experience of singing together. For this reason, Judit invited five singers from Euskal Herria to each collaborate in one of her songs.
The songwriting, translation, adaptation, and recording processes required dedicated days of coexistence and sharing, transforming the process into a true bridge between the distinct cultures of each region.
The album features Judit’s regular band members: Isaac Coll, Darío Barroso, Adri González and Arnau Figueres, who also handled production and mixing. Additionally, special collaborations from Xavi Lozano and Quico Pugès enhance the record. The live performances will showcase Judit’s band members.
