Judit Neddermann & GIO Symphonia project
The GIO Symphonia presents a special symphonic production with singer and composer Judit Neddermann and under the musical direction and arrangements of Joan Albert Amargós. The project will premiere on February 28th at the Sala Montsalvatge of the Girona Auditorium (8:30 p.m.) and is part of the celebration of the singer-songwriter’s 10-year artistic career. Through this symphonic format, Judit Neddermann will revisit a selection of her most significant songs, putting the author’s song in dialogue with the orchestral universe through the arrangements of Joan Albert Amargós. The project proposes a renewed listening to her repertoire, where the melodic and poetic strength of the songs will coexist with new colors, textures and dynamics provided by the orchestra.
This production, which is led by the Auditori de Girona, GIO Productions, As de Guia and the Portalblau Festival with the co-production of La Marfà – Centre de creació musical, brings together the talents of the GIO Symphonia and Judit Neddermann, who will perform alongside her band, with the aim of creating a symphonic proposal with a journey. The GIO, which assumes the production of the project, will provide 21 orchestra musicians who will take a step forward and become protagonists in a staging that will highlight their role.
The scenic proposal revolves around the color red as a central element, used monochromatically in costumes, which becomes a scenography of bodies in motion. This choice seeks to subvert the classical tradition, in which the orchestra’s musicians usually dress in black, and to endow them with their own visual presence, while becoming a living background that embraces the figure of Judit Neddermann.
Joan Albert Amargós’ arrangements start from Judit Neddermann’s own language to expand it towards a symphonic sound that constantly dialogues with the voice and the band. The concert will combine fully orchestral moments with other fragments performed solely with the band, generating a dynamic and narrative structure throughout a show of approximately one and a half hours in duration.
The GIO is tackling this project at a time of full artistic exploration, expanding the boundaries of classical music with unique proposals such as Hallscape, and joining other collaborations with prominent figures from the national and international music scene such as Rufus Wainwright, Ute Lemper, Buika or Sílvia Pérez Cruz. With the desire to promote a production with a journey and a vocation for continuity, the GIO Symphonia is now joining forces with Judit Neddermann in a project that will tour various stages in the Catalan territory.
The project will premiere on February 28 at the Girona Auditorium, under the Compromís Creació label, and will begin a tour of various stages in Catalonia throughout 2026. The concert can be seen at the Teatre Municipal el Jardí in Figueres (May 3), the Teatre Principal in Sabadell (May 29), the Palau de Pedralbes in Barcelona (July 20), the Portalblau Festival in L’Escala (August 8) and the F’Estiu in Calonge (August 14), configuring a tour that combines theaters and open-air heritage spaces that will surely continue in the autumn.
